Caleb Mission Newsletter 💌 The Fourth Week of September
Hallelujah! I pray that the God of peace will be with each of you. Fall has arrived, and Chuseok, Korea’s traditional harvest holiday, is just around the corner.
This year, I returned to Gunsan, where I once filmed the documentary The Border of Heaven – Smuggling, to spend time with North Korean escapees. I traveled with several North Korean women whom Caleb Mission helped rescue and who now worship and serve with us at our church. They recently resettled in South Korea, and we spent some special time together. I bought them fish and squid and took them to see the ocean. Seeing their joy made me very happy—it felt like spending time with my own daughters.
I’m thankful to God for giving me a heart for North Korean escapees. Even after many years of helping rescue and care for them, my heart still aches during the holidays. Many still have family members in North Korea. Some have told me that even when they eat good food in South Korea, it can feel like “chewing sand” because they miss their loved ones so deeply.
I believe reunification cannot come through human strength alone. God must make a way. We continue to pray for reunification through the gospel—for the idols of North Korea to fall and for the Kingdom of Jesus Christ to come to that land.
As you spend Chuseok with your families, please remember North Korean escapees who are separated from their loved ones.
Please also remember those at our center in Southeast Asia, where they hear the gospel and grow as disciples of Jesus. They are now safe after leaving China, but they are still waiting to enter South Korea and will spend the holiday in an unfamiliar place. Please also pray for the missionaries who faithfully care for them despite many challenges.
This ministry requires sacrifice and service for the sake of God’s Kingdom. Please pray for all the missionaries and ministry workers serving alongside us.
This year, Caleb Mission is especially focused on three things: rescuing North Korean escapees, providing gospel-centered discipleship, and helping them resettle in South Korea. We deeply need your prayers as we continue this work.
Above all, please pray for those who may feel especially lonely during this holiday season. My prayer is that Caleb Mission can help wipe away some of their tears and bring them comfort and hope through the love of Jesus Christ.
Thank you to everyone who has prayed, served, and partnered with us. As we enter this season of harvest, I pray that Caleb Mission will continue to bear good fruit, and that God will also bring abundant grace and fruit into your lives, families, and ministries. Thank you.
